Start your own Barclays Code Playground club

Barclays Code Playground

Summer Code Club is back

We’ve got something fun to add to your summer holiday activities list –  our free Summer Code Club sessions.

Each week we’ll take on a new coding challenge, and learn some exciting digital skills along the way. This year our projects will be made using a mixture of Scratch, VEXcodeVR and Micro:Bit.

Our experienced Digital Eagles coders will be running online sessions every Monday and Tuesday at 10:00am and 2:00pm. You can join in your Summer Code Club at home, at school or wherever you are.

Set up a Barclays Code Playground club at your school

Whether you’re familiar with coding, or totally new to it, teachers of any coding level can set up and run a Barclays Code Playground  club. We’ve got a wide range of free tools and resources to help you get started.

Our free Barclays Code Playground club is designed to support teachers in the delivery of sessions for children aged 8-13.Our club runs weekly, during term time, on a Tuesday at 15:30 GMT and on a Thursday at 16:00 GMT. These sessions are hosted live, by Barclays Digital Eagles, right into your classroom.

Alternatively, you can run your own Barclays Code Playground club at a time that suits you and your lesson timetable, using our free tools and resources, here

Getting started

Anyone of any coding skill level can set up and run a Barclays Code Playground club without any special training. You can even code along with your club and learn a new skill too.

Step 1: Register your club with us on the link above and we'll keep you up to date with all our Barclays Code Playground news, including available online sessions and free resources. The registration details will only be used to send details about Barclays Code Playground, for our full privacy policy click here.

Step 2: If you plan to run the coding sessions yourself, you’re ready to start your Barclays Code Playground club.

Step 3: Organise staffing within your school for the sessions. Make sure you follow your school rules regarding afterschool clubs, such as DBS requirements, etc.

Step 4: For a Digital Eagle led lesson, book your club onto a Barclays Code Playground after school club session. We hold these weekly during term time, on Tuesdays at 15:30 GMT and on Thursdays at 16:00 GMT. Remember, book your club on to each week’s event separately so you don’t miss a session. If you’d prefer to run your club at a different time, you can follow the projects for this term here.

Step 5: We’d love to know how you get on with your Barclays Code Playground club, please do send us any feedback, pictures or videos to codeplayground@barclays.com and tag us in on social media, just search ‘Digital Eagles’

Equipment for your club

As long as you have access to either desktops or laptops, and a good internet connection, you shouldn’t need anything extra to run a Barclays Code Playground code club. Our online sessions are best displayed on a projector or a smart board for easier viewing in a classroom setting.

Here’s a link to the free Scratch platform we use for our sessions.

Making your code club great

Once you’ve registered your club with us, we’ll send you a welcome email, along with some resources for you to use to make your sessions a success.
